Ear Acupuncture in practice

Needling

CPDG integrating ear acupuncture into practice needling

It is considered to be of the utmost importance that the insertion of needles into a patient, is performed in a clean space, and that the needle technique that is used, is both approved and safe.

Treatments take 35 to 45 minutes to be effective, so ensure that your patient is happy to sit for this amount of time.

All ear acupuncture needling should be undertaken in line with your training, according to guidelines set down by your governing body, and at least equivalent to that of the British Acupuncture Council.

You MUST do the following;

  • Record your patients’ details, name, address, medication, date of birth, and any relevant past medical history.
  • Only use pre-sterilised sealed disposable needles in the clinic, carrying a CE mark according to the Medical Devices Regulations.
  • Store needles in a locked cupboard or room within the clinic.
  • Keep the range of needles for daily use within the clean field area.
  • Inform your patient fully of what you are going to do, and what they may expect.
  • Only use each needle once on one patient only.
