Emergency First Aid at Work - with a focus on Rugby Union

Pre course information

Please note completing the RFU pre-courses alone DOES NOT give you a first aid qualification. You must successfully complete the face to face Level 3 first aid award.

Re: Emergency First Aid in at Work (Level-3) Rugby Union course

This is just a brief message to welcome you to the course and to say that I’m looking forward to working with you.

The full day course runs from 9.00  am to 5-00 pm, please arrive 15 minutes before to complete registration, for a 9.00 am prompt start.

The split evening course runs for 6-00 pm – 9-30 pm on both evenings. please arrive 15 minutes before to complete registration.

Completing the online modules below, will allow us to spend more time on the rugby specific injuries and practical skills, throughout the training. 

England Rugby Learning App

The RFU now (August 2026) have an online platform called England Rugby Learning

You will need to undertake your Headcase concussion, Introduction to safeguarding, and the First aid CPD modules.

You will need to have undertaken these in your new role as a first aider at your club. 

You will need to have:

1·       The Active First Aider Badge

(Approx 3 hours to complete)

This is made up of 4 first aid CPD modules and 6 player welfare modules. 

These are not intended to replace the First Aid course, but will support the skills you will learn on the face to face course.

Module 1 – primary survey, secondary survey, CPR, AED.

Module 2 – Recovery position, nose bleeds, choking, burns / scalds.

Module 3 – Bleeding, fractures, spinal injuries, log roll. 

Module 4 – roles and responsibilities, dialling emergency services, injury reporting. 

2·      The Headcase concussion module  (for first aiders) 

(approx. 30 minutes to complete)  

3. The introduction to safeguarding module
(approx. 30 minutes to complete)  

Once completed these courses will appear on your England Learning account as completed learning.  What to bring:

On the day please bring: 

  • 1 form of photo identification 

This allows us to verify your identity e.g.: passport / driving license / Photo ID Card. I do not take copies. 

  • Lunch and refreshments (full day course only)
  • A pen
  • Appropriate clothing and flat shoes
