Procedure for the use of ear seeds

Clean the ear

The patients’ ear can be cleaned with an alcohol or non-alcohol swab, this not only removes any dirt but more importantly the surface body oil on the skin, loose surface skin, oil and sweat. These are the primary reasons that a taped seed will dislodge on a patients ear.

Locate the point to be used

Locate the points to be used and place the new seed on new tape on the point. Use a probe to clearly identify and mark the ear with an indentation or mark this helps ensure that each seed is sited correctly.

Sleep advice

When a patient sleeps, they will usually sleep with their left or right side of their head on the pillow, if the seed / magnet / needle, is sore or uncomfortable and keeping them from sleeping, inform them to remove the seed using their finger nail.

If it becomes infected

If the ear, where the seed is located, or anywhere else, becomes infected, instruct the patient to remove the seed immediately and clean it with disinfectant, and monitor it closely. This situation is incredibly rare.

How to stimulate

Guide the patient to each seed / point you have used and let them palpate and feel where the seeds are.

Seeds can be gently stimulated by the patient for 1 – 3 minutes, or until they feel a change either, in their ear such as warmth, or elsewhere in the body such as a sensation of relaxation.
