Your treatment room must have access to a hand basin with easy hot and cold running water and soap.
Your hands must be dried by approved methods such as a hand air dryer, paper towels or clean towels.
You should have good ventilation and lighting in the clinical space
It’s crucial to keep everything that comes into contact with patients clean.
Daily, the work surface must be wiped clean with a clean cloth or alcohol swab.
You must wash your hands with an appropriate cleanser.
A clean piece of paper or couch roll should be placed on the dry work surface to create a ‘Clean Field’.
Your clinical equipment, such as sterile disposable needles, cotton wool balls and medi-swabs, should be kept in a sterile container on the clean field.
The sharps box clearly marked CONTAMINATED SHARPS, must be kept outside the clean field without being moved.
Sterile equipment and needles, should be stored in separate locations or areas, from the sharps bins and used materials.
