  • Your workplace should be clean with washable work surfaces.
  • Your treatment room must have access to a hand basin with easy hot and cold running water and soap.
  • Your hands must be dried by approved methods such as a hand air dryer, paper towels or clean towels.
  • You should have good ventilation and lighting in the clinical space
  • It’s crucial to keep everything that comes into contact with patients clean.
  • Daily, the work surface must be wiped clean with a clean cloth or alcohol swab.
  • You must wash your hands with an appropriate cleanser.
  • A clean piece of paper or couch roll should be placed on the dry work surface to create a ‘Clean Field’.
  • Your clinical equipment, such as sterile disposable needles, cotton wool balls and medi-swabs, should be kept in a sterile container on the clean field.
  • The sharps box clearly marked CONTAMINATED SHARPS, must be kept outside the clean field without being moved.
  • Sterile equipment and needles, should be stored in separate locations or areas, from the sharps bins and used materials.
