It’s essential to exercise caution to avoid potential complications or adverse reactions when treating. As such, it is critical to identify the red flags or warning signs that indicate a need for referral  when needling the ear.

By being aware of the following signs or symptoms, you can help ensure that your treatments are safe. Below is a list of signs or symptoms that should be referred to professional medical services as soon as possible.

  • Persistent unilateral hearing loss / tinnitus.
  • Pain.
  • Facial nerve palsy.
  • Large skin lesions.
  • Suspicious lumps.
  • Odd / strange looking moles.
  • Bleeding from the ear.
  • Clear / straw coloured fluid from the ear.
  • Discharge from the ear.
  • Unexplained hearing loss.
  • Sudden tinnitus.
