Play based learning in the classroom

This course is designed for teaching assistants who are new to early years or Key Stage 1 classrooms in schools – this can include reception class or play-based year 1 or 2 classes.

It provides essential foundational knowledge and practical skills over 3 lessons, where you have the opportunity to apply the knowledge you have gained, at a setting of your choosing.

Across the lessons, the focus will be on the Early Years Foundation Stage framework, understanding child development, the role of the adult, creating supportive learning environments and promoting positive behaviour management.

By the end of the course, you, the teaching assistant will be equipped to confidently support children’s growth and learning in a play-based environment.
