What will I learn?

On this interactive 1-day practical course you wil learn how to administer first aid to a child or infant and cover the following:

  • The roles and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider
  • First aid in my school / nursery / home
  • How to assess an incident
  • The recovery position
  • Recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness
  • CPR and the use of an AED
  • Anaphylaxis and Auto-injectors
  • Providing first aid to an infant or child who is choking
  • Dealing with life threatening bleeding and shock
  • How to treat minor injuries

In line with guidance from the HSE, the qualification approves work place first aiders for a period of 3 years, after which point you will need to retake the course.

It is highly recommended by most professioanl associations that you refresh your knowledge annually.

  • This award is aimed at learners who wish to become emergency paediatric first-aiders in the workplace.
  • It meets the requirements for training emergency first-aiders in organisations that have identified staff needing training to this level within their first-aid needs assessment.
  • You don’t need formal qualifications to join the course, but you should be able to read and write English at a basic level.
  • You must be over 14 years old.

This qualification is assessed through the following two methods:

  1. Practical assessment – You must demonstrate the practical first aid skills, including CPR, Recovery Position, etc.
  2. Theory assessment – You must answer 15 multiple-choice questions. The pass mark is 75%, which is 11 out of 15.

You will receive a Highfield Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid  (RQF) upon successfully completing the course.

This award is fully recognised nationally within the UK by all regulators, professional associations, and insurance companies.

We will send you a hard copy by post, along with an e-certificate electronically for your records.

CPDG Limited is an approved center for Highfield Qualifications. All of our courses are externally quality assured by Highfield Qualifications.

CPDG Emergency Peadiatric first aid award

The course is usually delivered over 1 full face to face training day, or over 2 evenings.

The total qualification time is 7 hours.

  • Refreshments and lunch will sadly not be provided.
  • Please bring a pen or pencil; all other materials, including full-colour course notes and training equipment, will be supplied.
  • All participants must be ready to give and receive simulated first aid during the training.
  • If you are fasting for religious or other reasons, you must inform the tutor before the course begins.
