Course Outline
Shiatsu is a touch-based therapy that applies both pressure and stretches through clothing to the surface of the body. Shiatsu is a therapeutic practice that can support individuals in moving towards greater health and well-being. This bespoke course has been developed by Andy as a practical and theoretical introduction to understanding the philosophy of Shiatsu.
Throughout the 3 day workshop you will explore the relationship of shiatsu principles to other forms of bodywork. Correct application of the principles of Shiatsu in a therapeutic environment, explore the use of Shiatsu and QiGong as a system for preventing illness and improving the health of both practitioner and receiver.
You will develop a knowledge of palpation and body handling skills and sensitivity of touch through the introduction of the use of Shiatsu palpation techniques in prone, supine, side and sitting positions. This course aims to equip you, the attendee with the confidence to integrate Shiatsu techniques into your practice via your chosen treatment modality.

On this practical hands on 3-day workshop you will learn to:
- Demonstrate safe patient care and handling skills
- Locate muscles and anatomical / bony landmarks relating to shiatsu techniques
- Locate key Tsubo / Acupressure points
- Safely demonstrate and apply a number of Shiatsu body handling and palpation techniques in four positions; prone, supine, sitting and side lying.
- Develop an understanding of the theories of Zen Shiatsu.
- Demonstrate Qigong self-administered exercises relevant to clinical practice
By the end of the workshop you will be able to;
- Professionally, competently and safely demonstrate basic shiatsu techniques in four positions; prone, supine, sitting and side.
- Demonstrate a shiatsu routine as used in Eastern bodywork modalities.
- Integrate shiatsu techniques in your practice via your chosen modality.
- Developed your Qi.
Topics covered will also include Zen Zhiatsu, Tsubo / Acu-point location, qigong, accurately locate various muscles and anatomical / bony landmarks relating to Shiatsu techniques.

All CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine) practitioners, in particular bodyworkers holding a Level 3 or above qualification in their chosen modality and Anatomy and Physiology.
The course is suitable for:
- Registered healthcare professionals, including Acupuncturists, Osteopaths, Masseurs, Sports Massage Therapists, Chiropractors, and final year bodywork students etc.
- A working knowledge of massage (any particular style) is required.
- Those who wish to expand their practical knowledge and compare or contrast with the Eastern bodywork traditions.
- All participants must be prepared to give and receive treatments during the training, and a must be over 18 years old.
- Please wear loose and comfortable clothing like tracksuit bottoms and sweatshirt.

- Refreshments and lunch sadly are not provided.
- You will need to bring a pen or pencil, we will be providing everything else; full colour course notes, all of the training equipment etc.
- You will be formatively assessed throughout the course by the tutor, with them providing you with constructive feedback and instruction.
- All participants must be prepared to give and receive treatments during the training, and a must be over 18 years old.
- If you are fasting for religious or other reasons you must inform the tutor before the course commences.
- Due to the practical hands on nature of the course the minimum number of participants is 6.
